If the modern ecumenical movement has always been closely linked to social developments, the COVID-19 pandemic, with its tragic global consequences for all human activity, will undoubtedly also be one of the many historical developments that have shaped the ecumenical journey. This publication is the result of the joint research project CRISIS launched in the fall of 2020 by the Institute for Ecumenical Studies and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) in Rome, aimed at reflecting on the ecumenical consequences of the pandemic. First, it offers a selection of articles written by experts from different Christian traditions and from different perspectives: theological, sociological, historical, pastoral, canonical and public health. Second, it offers a study, the result of a worldwide inquiry among the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences and the Synods of the Eastern Churches, compiled by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, in collaboration with the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the Angelicum, entitled “Ecumenism in a Time of Pandemic: from Crisis to opportunity. A Working Paper”.
